The third stave of Charles Dickens' beloved novel, "A Christmas Carol," introduces readers to the Ghost of Christmas Present. This mysterious figure takes Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey around London to observe the festivities and goodwill of the season. He shows Scrooge how people from all walks of life can make the most of the season and be full of joy in spite of their difficult circumstances. The Ghost of Christmas Present is a powerful figure that helps open up Scrooge’s heart to the joys of the holiday season. Dressed in a beautiful green robe, with a wreath of holly and ivy crowning his head, the ghost was ‘so large and vast in his affability,’ that Scrooge was both awed and delighted by his presence. He was much more cheery and jovial than the previous spirits, but still commanded a great sense of power and authority. His entrance was accompanied by an explosion of thunder and lightning, and he was able to bring forth wondrous visions and scenes of Christmas throughout the world.
