New York Christmas 2015: An Unforgettable Experience

Christmas is a magical time of year, and no city sparkles quite like New York City. With its iconic Christmas tree lighting in Rockefeller Center, the festive window displays, and the famous holiday markets, NYC Christmas is bound to be an unforgettable experience for visitors and residents alike.

A Magical Tree Lighting in Rockefeller Center

The annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting is one of the most anticipated events in the city during the holiday season. Famous musical acts, celebrities, and thousands of spectators flock to Rockefeller Center every year to witness this spectacular event. This year, the tree will be lit up on December 3rd.

The Rockefeller Center tree is an enormous Norway spruce, which stands at least 75 feet tall and 45 feet wide. It is decorated with over 30,000 multi-colored LED lights and a magnificent Swarovski star that towers above it at the peak. The event includes a full day of entertainment, beginning with the lighting of the tree at 6pm, followed by fireworks and a special appearance from Santa Claus.

Festive Window Displays

New York City's department stores have been putting up festive window displays since the late 1800s, and they remain one of the most beloved sights of the holiday season. Every year, these iconic retail chains compete to out do each other with elaborate decorations, light displays, and storylines. Visitors can expect to see all kinds of creative scenes, from snow-covered landscapes to Santa's workshop and beyond.

The window displays from Macy's and Bloomingdales, in particular, stand out for their whimsical designs. These department stores are renowned for their innovative touches, from animatronic characters and 3D projection mapping to interactive elements and a little something for everyone.

Holiday Markets & Shopping

Whether you're in the mood for holiday shopping or looking for unique items to give as gifts, New York City has plenty of holiday markets to explore. From Union Square to Bryant Park and Columbus Circle, these festive markets offer everything from handmade crafts to vintage clothing and accessories.

Union Square and Bryant Park are the two most popular holiday markets in the city, both offering a wide selection of vendors and items. At Union Square, shoppers can find a variety of food and drink options, as well as artisanal gifts, jewelry, and knick-knacks. At Bryant Park, visitors will discover a classic European winter market, with vendors selling handcrafted items like crafts, jewelry, glassware, and more.
